We need some late entrants for the Selected Openings Tourney (Gambit/Counter Gambits). We have one strong section already for the ‘Gambit e-mail’ Tourney, but short on the others. To make up viable tourneys I am therefore seeking additional late entries as follows:-
1 or 2 entries for the Counter Gambit (e-mail) and
1 or 2 entries for the Gambit or the Counter Gambit (postal)
Play will commence Oct.1st. Details of selected openings options can be viewed on the Website. Anyone interested, or requiring further information please contact me soonest – Fred Clough fredch@hotmail.co.uk
Two more players have reached the magical 20 CM points barrier and are awarded the BCCA Candidate Master (CM) Title. Brian Thompson won the British Candidates tournament (to add to a previous BCCA Candidates victory & a 2nd place in the BCCC Candidates in 2012/3), and Derek Gallimore won a BCCA Postal Candidates taking his total to 20. Congratulations to both players.
Dave Grobler has been awarded the BCCA Candidate Master Title following his tournament victory in the BCCA Candidates A for 2014/5. He also earned CM Points for his victory in the 2014 Silver Medal tournament, and for his 2nd place in the 2013/4 BCCA Candidates D section. Congratulations to Dave!
Les Ellis has finished all his games scoring 6 out of 8. He therefore joins Tim Harding at the top of the leader board. Both will now have to wait to see if anyone can catch them & then the tie-break (sum of opponent’s scores) will be used for players on equal scores.
Tim Harding is the new leader in the clubhouse having finished his games with an excellent score of 6 out of 8. Tim will now to have to wait to find out whether anyone else can match his score, or indeed overtake him. 105 games in the tournament have now finished with 31 games ongoing. The tournament table can be seen here: http://www.bccachess.org/chesstournaments/paterson-rodford-memorials-start-dec-2014/ (Change the “Show … entries” number to “50” to see the full list of players) and all the games can be seen here: https://www.iccf.com/event?id=49085
BCCA President Stan Grayland has won the 2014/5 BCCA William Mason Championship Final. The crosstable can be seen here: https://www.iccf.com/event?id=45557 Although there are still four games ongoing, Stan cannot be caught. Well played Stan!
