BCCA General Secretary, Editor of "Correspondence Chess" : BCCA & ICCF Tournament Director; ICCF International Arbiter (IA) : ICCF Qualifications Commissioner for 4 years from 2009-13.
Season Three of this 4-player Team Tournament will get underway in June. BCCA entered six teams last season & I am hopeful we can do the same or better this time around. Would you like to play?
The BWSTT is a 4-player Team tournament where each player will probably play 6 games each (7 teams per Division). In effect, it is a mini version of the ICCF Champions League. 10 moves in 40 days: Playing time 18 months. Webserver. Start Date 15 June 2015. Last Date for Entries to me May 20, 2015.
At least two members of each team must be British, but the other team members can be from anywhere so our overseas members can play!
FREE! BCCA are fully funding the entry fee for each team (£20 per team) so it will be no cost to individual members. All that we ask is that you represent the BCCA in the best possible manner, maintain your membership throughout the term of the tournament, and do not default any games.
Anyone wishing to play should contact Neil Limbert as soon as possible.
Colin Beveridge & Arthur Reed are the latest members to earn the BCCA Candidate Master Title. Colin won the BCCA 2014 WS Silver Medal tournament No.1 earning him 10 CM points taking his total to 22. Arthur earned 3rd place in the same tournament earning him 2 CM points. Having been stuck on 19 points for a while, this just shows how important it is to keep pushing for minor placings. Congratulations to both players! The final crosstable for this event:- https://www.iccf.com/event?id=42107
Although the BCCA no longer holds a Best Game competition, BCCA English members are allowed to submit games to the EFCC (English Federation for CC) Best Games competition. See the EFCC website News item of February 10 for full details.
David Elwood has won the 2014 BCCA Postal Bronze Medal tournament with an excellent score of 8/10. Congratulations to David! Commiserations to Daniel Witt who finished a close 2nd on 7½. The tournament crosstable can be seen here:-
It is now possible to add your photo to your ICCF profile page. There are good prizes on offer from ICCF as an incentive. See: https://www.iccf.com/message?message=750
At the BCCA Annual General Meeting on November 1st, Jonathan Rashleigh decided to retire from the office of President after more than 6 years at the helm of BCCA affairs. Indeed, Jonathan has been attending meetings for more than 13 years as an Executive Committee member, Treasurer, and finally as President. His wise counsel and solid good sense will be sorely missed at our biannual meetings.
He is replaced as President by Stan Grayland. Stan first attended a BCCA Annual General Meeting back in the 1960’s (!) when he remembers a hall full of people attending the AGM. Having been a volunteer worker on and off for over 40 years with BCCA, and having already been awarded an Honorary Life Vice-Presidency for his services to our Association, there is no-one better qualified than Stan to be in control of the BCCA at this time. We wish Stan good luck in his new role.
Jonathan Rashleigh Stan Grayland
Jonathan Rashleigh was awarded the post of Honorary Life Past President and was also presented with an engraved Tankard as a leaving gift & thank you for his dedication & service to the BCCA.
Congratulations to Frank McMahon who secured the necessary CM (Candidate Master) points in a Class 2 Trio to take him over the 20 point barrier. Frank obtained CM points in six different events to obtain the Title. Well played!
The “White Rose” team, captained by Phill Beckett, are the inaugural Champions of the webserver BCCL! Whilst there are still some games remaining, their 12.5 point total (out of 16 – each of the 8 players plays 2 games) cannot be caught. Congratulations to Phill and his team!
Raymond Burridge has won the 2014 BCCA Postal Silver Medal tournament with a score of 6.5/8. There are still some games ongoing but Raymond cannot be caught. The crosstable can be seen here: https://www.iccf.com/event?id=42096
