Scheming Mind Hounds team win BCCL

The champions of the webserver BCCL (British CC League) are the Scheming Mind Hounds team. Congratulations to Phill Beckett (Capt) & his team. The crosstable can be seen here: https://www.iccf.com/event?id=49415

The BCCL consists of 8-player teams, where each player plays 2 games v one opponent. There are three divisions (Championship, Division One, Division Two) with 9 teams in each division – over 200 players in total!

CC194 Autumn 2015

The latest BCCA magazine (CC194) is being posted over the next few days. Includes articles by Stan Grayland, Tim Harding, Paul Terry, Mike Read & Hamilton McMillan. It also includes the last quarterly book sale from the Hawley library.

Urgent Entries Required for Gambit/Counter-Gambit Tournaments!

We need some late entrants for the Selected Openings Tourney (Gambit/Counter Gambits). We have one strong section already for the ‘Gambit e-mail’ Tourney, but short on the others. To make up viable tourneys I am therefore seeking additional late entries as follows:-
1 or 2 entries for the Counter Gambit (e-mail) and
1 or 2 entries for the Gambit or the Counter Gambit (postal)

Webserver Trio’s – August Update

Congratulations to Andrew Dearnley on winning Class 3 Trio No.18 with a score of 3/4 – well played. Andrew has been awarded 3 coveted BCCA Master Points

Well played to Ron Cooper on winning Class 1 Trio No.114 with a score of 3.5/4, Ron returns to Class 2 and is awarded a further 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points.

Roger Pearce and Ron Cooper are joint winners of Class 1 Trio No.112 and are awarded 1 BCCA Candidate Master Point each. Roger has already been promoted to Class 2 and a new Class 2 Trio will start for Ron as soon as other Players are available. Well played both.

Congratulations to Malcolm Winter on winning Class 1 Trio No.118 with a score of 3.5/4. Malcolm returns to Class 2 and is awarded a further 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points bringing his total to 5 – well played.

Congratulations to Philip Tolhurst who has won Class 3 Trio No.17 with a score of 2.5/4 and is awarded 3 BCCA Master Points bringing his total to 4. It was a close fought match with Gary Maguire and Colin Beveridge – well played all.

New Chess Show on TV

Malcolm Winter has sent us some details of a new TV Show he is producing called ‘CheckMate.’ It is based on the old BBC Master Game and the presenter is ‘Anna Richardson.‘ For those that are interested here is a link to the shows Website The show has already been taken up by German TV and we can only hope that we will see it over here on ‘Free to View’ as well. Webserver Trio’s – July Update

Antony Copsey and Robert Rozanski are Joint Winners of Class 2 Trio No.47 with a score of 3/4  – both players are promoted to Class and share the BCCA Candidate Master Points with 2 each – well played.

Congratulations to Martin Hardwick who has won Class 1 Trio No.96 with a score of 3.5/4. Martin has been awarded 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points and promoted to Class 2 – well played

Class 1 Trio No.102 – Congratulations to New Member, Richard Akrill on his second Class 1 win. Richard is already playing in Class 2 and receives a further 2 BCCA Candidate Master points.

New Member, Richard Tillett has won his first Class 1 Trio No.111 with a perfect score of 4/4 – very well played. Richard is now promoted to Class 2 and awarded 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points to start his campaign.

Despite Monika Gergelova’s time defaults in Class 1 Trio No.109, Roger Pearce was ahead in both games and would have won the Trio had play continued, he is therefore promoted to Class 2 and awarded 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points to start his campaign.

Well played to our Match Captain, Russell Sherwood on winning Class 2 Trio No,50 with a score of 3/4 in a close fought match against Dennis Broadway and Bill Lindberg. Russell is awarded 4 BCCA Candidate Master Points and promoted to Class 3.

Congratulations to, New Member, Edward Burke  who has won Class 1 Trio No.106 with a perfect score of 4/4 despite the ‘Time Default’ by Devin Dingler, Edward was well ahead in the game concerned and would have won if play had continued. He is promoted to Class 2 and awarded 2 BCCA Candidate Master Points

Two players awarded BCCA Candidate Master Title

Two more players have reached the magical 20 CM points barrier and are awarded the BCCA Candidate Master (CM) Title. Brian Thompson won the British Candidates tournament (to add to a previous BCCA Candidates victory & a 2nd place in the BCCC Candidates in 2012/3), and Derek Gallimore won a BCCA Postal Candidates taking his total to 20. Congratulations to both players.

Latest BCCA Candidate Master: Dave Grobler!

Dave Grobler has been awarded the BCCA Candidate Master Title following his tournament victory in the BCCA Candidates A for 2014/5. He also earned CM Points for his victory in the 2014 Silver Medal tournament, and for his 2nd place in the 2013/4 BCCA Candidates D section. Congratulations to Dave!

Les Ellis Joint Leader of Rodford Memorial

Les Ellis has finished all his games scoring 6 out of 8. He therefore joins Tim Harding at the top of the leader board. Both will now have to wait to see if anyone can catch them & then the tie-break (sum of opponent’s scores) will be used for players on equal scores.
